The Secret Lives of Kitchen Appliances

There was a time when everyone’s life in the kitchen was hard, but life is so much more convenient now with modern advanced appliances. Today, the kitchen is one of the most important parts of a home, a place where families and friends gather around to prepare and eat food together.

In the past, it was where the food was prepared, with wood-burning stoves, metal pots, and cast-iron pans. With technological advancements, the kitchen has evolved into a more comfortable space. Now, kitchen appliances like microwaves, food choppers, mixers, and blenders have become more accessible and changed the way we prepare and consume food.

Making meals in the past was a lot of work and took time. Now, with the help of appliances, it’s faster and easier. We have become so dependent on these things that we can’t imagine our lives without them.

Transformation of Age-Old Kitchen Appliances to Smart Kitchen Appliances

Traditional kitchen appliances were mechanical and noisy. However, the vision of a modern kitchen has been around from decades starting from the 50s, and is still continuing. It started with a pressure cooker and now we have some latest innovations in kitchen appliances like a grinder, atta maker, induction stoves, and more. Many of these appliances can be found in the homes of people who have the latest technology in their kitchens. Let’s have a look at their uses and benefits.

Electric Rice Cooker

Electric rice cookers are kitchen appliances that are used to cook rice. They are easy to use and can be programmed to cook rice at the push of a button. Most of these cookers are equipped with a ‘keep warm’ feature that keeps the rice warm after it is cooked, so it is always hot and fresh to eat. They are available in different sizes and can be used to cook for a large or small family.

Electric Kettle

An electric kettle is an appliance used to heat water. It typically has a watertight, spoutless lid and an electric heating element that brings water to a boil within minutes. It is a convenient way to quickly heat water for tea, coffee, soup or other purposes. Some models come with features like automatic shut-off, temperature control, and ‘keep-warm’ functions. You can find them in different materials like stainless steel or borosilicate glass.

Grinder & Blender

Both these appliances serve different purposes. While grinders are used for the coarse grinding of spices, blenders are used to create smooth, creamy beverages like frappes and smoothies. However, some blenders can also be used to grind coffee beans. Blenders typically have more powerful motors than grinders and can grind beans more quickly. However, earlier, people used sil batta, also known as a grinding stone, for preparing spices and chutneys.

Atta or Bread Maker

Modern inventions are designed keeping hygiene in mind. Earlier and even now, people knead the dough manually using their hands and we know many germs are likely to be present in our hands, which is unhygienic. Therefore, an atta or bread maker is a hygienic way to knead atta.

Kneading dough by hand can be a time-consuming process, but with an atta or bread maker, the dough can be prepared in a fraction of the time. It is a healthy way to make dough. When the dough is kneaded by hand, it can often become overworked, which can result in tough, chewy bread. However, when the dough is made in an atta maker, it is kneaded just enough, resulting in soft, fluffy bread.

We know life with smart kitchen appliances is an easy one. With appliances like an OTG oven, air fryer or sandwich maker, we can easily cook our meals, clean our dishes, keep our food fresh and spend time with family as well. We can also save time and money by using these appliances. The life of kitchen appliances has been a fun ride from traditional to more modern innovations.
